Designing ¿Qué clase de oveja soy yo?: A Full Editorial & Illustration Project

Some projects are assignments. Others are deeply personal.

This one was both.

Working on ¿Qué clase de oveja soy yo? by Pastor Iván Burgos was a rare opportunity to shape a book from the inside out—conceptually, visually, and emotionally.

A 360° Creative Process

From the very beginning, the goal was clear: create a visual language that reflects the book’s spiritual depth while remaining accessible and engaging.

I had the privilege to develop:

• Cover & back cover design
• Interior layout and typesetting
• Original sheep illustrations

Every element was crafted to support the same central question the book poses to the reader:
What kind of sheep am I?

The Cover: A Direct, Emotional Hook

The cover needed to do one thing instantly—make the reader pause.

A close-up of a sheep’s eye creates an intimate, almost confrontational moment. The bold typography reinforces the question, turning it into a personal challenge rather than just a title.

Interior Design: Clarity Meets Reflection

The interior was designed for readability and rhythm:

• Clean typography for long-form reading
• Balanced margins to create breathing space
• Structured chapters that guide reflection

The layout supports the message without distracting from it—allowing the content to lead.

Illustrations: Visual Storytelling with Purpose

The sheep illustrations play a key narrative role.
They are not decorative—they interpret behavior, attitude, and spiritual states.

Each scene visually reinforces the themes explored in the text:

• Guidance vs. distraction
• Obedience vs. resistance
• Community vs. isolation

A Collaboration Built on Trust

This project was a true collaboration—defined by trust, clarity, and professionalism. From the get-go, working with the Pastor and Ofelia Pérez, the editor was being a part of a Dream Team.

That trust made it possible to explore creative decisions that aligned both with the author’s vision and the reader’s experience.
